Minting creates the token for a work. The image itself is often stored elsewhere, with the token pointing to it.
Mint
If the image sits on an ordinary server, it can disappear. Decentralized storage such as IPFS or Arweave is more durable.
Storage
Artists can set a royalty on resales, but many marketplaces now make it optional. Check before you mint.
Creator royalty
The blockchain shows every past owner, which makes provenance clear. It does not prove the minter made the art.
Provenance
Buying an NFT usually gives you the token, not the copyright. The license attached to the work says what you may do with it.
